We create events for runners of all levels, built around one simple idea: trail running should be fun, safe and open to everyone. Our races take place in some of our favorite natural places, where a supportive low-pressure atmosphere makes it easy to chase your next big goal, whatever that may be.
Evenstar Ultras
This is a timed event, meaning you choose the amount of time you’d like to run and cover as much distance as you can within that block. The 3.48- mile trail loop brings you back frequently to the main aid station, so there’s no need to carry excessive gear, fuel or navigation tools. With 3-, 6-,12-, and 24- hour options, there is something for everyone, whether you’re aiming for your first 50k or taking on the challenge of 100 miles. This is a no DNF race, every distance and accomplishment is celebrated!

Why is it called Evenstar?
Evenstar is a nod to the lore of Tolkein’s Middle-earth and the sense of adventure and wonder we hope to bring to our events. The name also reflects the spirit of the Shenandoah Valley, known as the “Daughter of the Stars”, a reference to the stars that reflected upon the river below, making the valley a daughter of the stars above.
Our inaugural race will be held October 10-11, 2026 at Shenandoah River State Park.

Who Are We?
We are Heidi and Derek, and, in short, we are two ultra-loving friends who felt a pull toward race directing. We saw an area untouched by ultras, full of serious potential and opportunity, and we both share a desire not only to give back to the community that has given us so much, but also to create a new community and opportunity for people to get outside, push their limits, and find adventure and fun.
